About this object
Riding one required courage and balance, much like the pioneers who chose to settle and build lives in this young Florida community.
Bicycle
This high-wheel bicycle represents the daring spirit of the 1880s, when such contraptions, with their enormous front wheel and tiny rear wheel, were the cutting edge of personal transportation. Donated by Allan Wier, this machine would have been a prized possession in early Stuart, a symbol of modern progress just as the town itself was taking shape.
