In 1996, filmmaker Billy Elkins and the Stuart Heritage Museum partnered to capture the voices and stories of Stuart's earliest settlers, earning recognition with a prestigious Golden Quill Award for their documentary effort.
This VHS tape represents a crucial moment when the museum committed to preserving the firsthand accounts of pioneers who had witnessed Stuart's transformation from a frontier outpost into a thriving Treasure Coast community. Through Elkins' lens, these oral histories became permanent records, a gift to future generations curious about the people who built the Stuart we know today.
