Iron

A SAD Iron found on the grounds of Conquistador Condo

This sturdy iron, short for "Sad Iron" because of its flat, heavy base, speaks to the domestic labor that sustained Stuart's households through the early-to-mid twentieth century, when residents pressed clothes and linens by hand with tools heated on stove tops.

About this object

Found among the grounds of the Conquistador Condo, it's a tangible reminder of the physical work, patience, and skill required in an era before electric irons transformed household routines. Margaret Drury's donation helps us remember the everyday people whose unsung efforts kept Stuart's homes and families running.
